Loss Prevention

As a global player in automotive supplier industry more or less all OEMs (Qriginal Equipment Manufacturers) an all continents (The Americas, Europe, Asia, Australia) are clients of Continental Automotive Systems.

The ability to deliver 24/365 all required products in desired quality to our costumers is a basic pre-requisite to be a recognized and accepted player in this market.

The development of logistic and production concepts over the recent years towards just-in-time and just-in-sequence delivery require extremely stable and reliable development, manufacturing and, distribution processes within CAS. We cannot afford not to be able to deliver to our customers due to the high interdependency between our and our customer`s processes.

In order to face this challange CAS is participating in a corporate-wide Loss Prevention Programme which has been developped and executed in close cooperation with FM Global, the insurer of CAS against property loss (PD) and business interruption (BI).

The loss prevention programme focusses on BI caused by fires, natural hazards (flooding, lightning, earthquake, vulcano, strom etc.) and by technical malfunction

This is being ensured and implementedby considering state-of-the-art technical and organizational standards during development, operation and maintenance of production processes and facilities. In the field of fire prevention and protection this means installation of automatic fire detection and extinguishing systems (sprinklers) at our production facilities as well as implementation of human-element oriented programmes in order to prevent/minimize hazards resulting from Hot Work and ongoing change within the manufacturing environment.

The compliance of our facilities with those standards is being continuously checked by internal and external audits. At least once a year engineering staff from our insurer audits each facility.

Any planed change to occupancy and to processes is being analyzed and approved upfront to shopfloor implementation by FM Global engineering staff in order to use existing ressources most effectively and efficently.

Continental Automotive Systems (CAS) has defined the objective to classify all manufacturing locations worldwide as High Protected Risk (HPR). Significant investments have been made over the last years in order to achieve this target. Currently, 17 out of 35 locations ww are HPR classified.
